Test Engineer – Satcom Terminal Development

Full Time

The successful candidate will work as part of Intellian’s UK L-Band Centre of Excellence, and will be responsible for testing the hardware, software and subsystems for Intellian’s L-Band Terminal portfolio.
Working primarily alongside the Integration, Validation and Verification Engineer and reporting to the Engineering Manager of L-Band CoE, the Test Engineer will test RF, analogue and digital hardware and associated software for Satellite Communication Terminals within the schedule, performance requirements and quality.
The Test Engineer will be part of an interdisciplinary Team, working closely a multi disciplinary team of engineers, project management, consultants and engineering/QA/Production Teams at Intellian’s UK development centre and Intellian’s headquarters in South Korea to design and deliver designs suitable for mass production.

Technical Responsibilities:
• Responsible for the definition of the test strategy and preparation of various test plans.
• Responsible for executing the Test Plan to verify and validate the final product
• Responsible for the selection and/or development of tools
• Work closely with the systems team on the definition of test and validation requirements
• Work closely with developers to reproduce, identify and isolate the preproduction and production issues Job 
• Work closely with the engineering team in Korea to support integration testing / QA of the satellite user terminal
• Provide system integration support for the development and troubleshooting of the system
• Document the design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-related information relevant to the project
• Responsible for running/co-ordinating Alpha and Beta trials of the product
• Provide training and technical support as required to other members.

Experience – Mandatory:
• Experience with Spectrum Analysers, VNAs, Power Meters, NF measurement, Oscilloscope and other test and measurement equipment to a high level of proficiency
• Experience with Python scripting and control of DUT, test equipment and Development of automated test environment
• Proven engineering experience in a test, integration verification of communication systems
• Understanding of EMI/EMC and their measurement methods
• Good skills with PCB re-work and soldering
• Experience in integration & block testing of incremental software releases for products and/or projects, in accordance with the schedule
• Providing expert technical support and the setup of environments to developers, testers and end users, and providing support to the software integration team, development and validation teams during the implementation phase of the project
• Identifying risks and proposing effective solutions
• Authoring test documentation and documentation updates
• Excellent debugging, failure analysis and problem-solving abilities
• Excellent ability to clearly articulate problems and solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Regulatory testing standards and standardisation bodies related to land, maritime and aviation applications such as FCC, ETSI, FAA, RTCA
Experience – Desirable:
• Prior experience of Iridium, Inmarsat or Thuraya systems
• Prior Avionics experience
• Product installation, configuration, data management, performance monitoring and systems administration
• Understanding of the impacts of the overall mechanical design and layout on the EMI/EMC performance.
• Type approvals and homologation experience
• Experience of running customer trials would be an advantage

Skills/Qualifications:
• Bachelor's or Masters degree in RF/electronic/electrical engineering or similar discipline
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written with the ability to influence and negotiate with stakeholders across the business.
